A quasi-rec and a wholehearted one

The quasi-rec is for chaila43's Sarah Connor/James Ellison vid, Shelter from the Storm. My problem with it is song choice; you cannot put Sarah Connor in a room with the concepts of "shelter" and "storm" and expect me to define her as anything but "extremely inclement weather." I do think that there's a plausible narrative within which Ellison could come ( Read more... )

If you'll take an unprejudiced view, I also whole-heartedly and highly rec "One Dimension Removed" and am still in awe of how she juggled all those dimensions of relationships so well.

(and when I get a chance I'll be doing it on my own journal too).

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for the rec!

I could make a LIST of the things that were improved by your beta (and will, if you want). There are so many little changes - and several big ones - that I made due to your comments, and all of them improved the story for the better. Thank you so much for being a willing and helpful beta.

That's an interesting observation about the song choice in the Ellison vid. I admit I'm extremely biased in favor of the vid both because this is exactly the dynamic between these characters that intrigued me in the show (and probably intrigued me more than any other relationship on the show, which I know puts me in a vast minority!), and also because Chaila's a good friend and we tend to think very much alike. Bias acknowledged, I like the song choice (especially lyrically; musically it's perhaps a bit slow and safe for this story) because in a way it emphasizes how much this is Ellison's POV, and that his viewpoint is necessarily partial. Sarah, I imagine, would scoff heartily at the idea of being thought a shelter from anyone's storm (she tries to do a fair bit of sheltering of the people she loves, but often enough she does so by getting them away from her, rather than drawing them in--I think particularly of Charley here), but for Ellison, I think there's this sense of the confusion and uncertainty as the problem and of Sarah as ( ... )

Nothing like an unjust cancellation to bring together myriad disparate opinions together under one umbrella of discontent. Bah!

And on the off chance you're interested, chaila43 posted something of a vid commentary for that vid that predominantly addresses her struggles with that song choice and her reasons for ultimately deciding to go with it.
