1) The Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund is an entirely worthy cause, especially for those of us who enjoy fantasy and science fiction and would like to see it continue as a vibrant, multi-faceted genre. Which I mention for no particular reason. Ahem.

2) This is an awesome BSG/TSCC/The Origin of Species vid. No, really. (h/t cryptoxin3) ( Read more... )

Hee. Ratings are ridiculously variable, aren't they? I am itching to get out and hike. I need to be in better shape, but it's self-defeating to not hike because I feel unfit.

Dave's getting ready to go backpack and camp with his buddy at Painted Desert next month. But I don't need to do even that much; there are plenty of really great trails right here in town.

This is why I like hiking alone sometimes. I know, I know, Not Safe For Women, but it's so nice to just go at my own pace and not worry about how fit or not fit I am.

In Which the People of Massachusetts Are Totally Done With This Snow Thing (Except For This One Old Guy Who's All, Meh, I'll Be Dead Soon Anyway).

I would hire you to summarize all the news.

Ah, I love Octavia Butler. She was at Readercon some years back and seemed to be an utterly brilliant and gracious person.

And heh, you're right abou #4.

From what I've read about her, she sounds like she was. It's a terrible shame she died so relatively young.

It was a surprise to meet her the way I did. She was sitting in the audience section before a panel and just struck up a conversation with those of us who had arrived early.

She was one of those authors who's voice came across as beautifully in person as it did on the written page.

#4 - omg, am so stir crazy! i am to the point where i don't care, i would go out and hike IN the snow! or in the mud, whatever. Except... you know. Feh. I hate feeling clumsy and vulnerable, I hate not being able to GO PLACES, and I hate not getting out.

I can't wait for spring, in SO many ways. :P

It really is getting warmer, at least. I've only worn my winter coat twice this week!

I have been sad to discover that right now I can't wear anything except my heavy winter coat, because the current cast doesn't seem to fit through the sleeves/cufss of anything else. *sigh*
