An adorable baby afghan (if I do say so myself)

May 05, 2009 19:20

Once upon a time (in January if I must be more exact) I posted pictures of my first afghan.  That took me 10 years or so agonizing years to complete.

But good news--I now know what it takes to finish an afghan.  Leave the crochet supplies next to the couch, and when watching a movie or the news, crochet for a few minutes.

And guess what--with ( Read more... )

The afghan is gorgeous and could totally be for a boy. Boys can have a little pink in their lives. ;)

You're right-- it definitely could be a boy. But that doesn't mean I can't find an excuse to make another baby afghan. :-)

Its a beautiful blanket.. but isn't cashmere in now...? LOL (kidding!)
Ten years wow. I've had mine sitting a third of the way done, in a box, in the closet for the past five years... You motivated me to pull it out. Maybe in five years I'll be finished. :)

Oh no! I should've done it in Cashmere even though the baby yarn I used is much softer! I always miss the trends... ;)

It was finishing the first one which was hardest. Once I had that done, I actually found it quite easy to do this one in three months. For the first one it really was just a mental barrier, and not realizing that I could just integrate it into what I was doing and finish it.

You can do it! Beat the box! (I must admit, one of my motivations for finishing the first--ten year--afghan was that I could no longer justify dragging it around unfinished, and yet I couldn't stand to throw away what I had already done.)

I hear ya! I cant being myself to throwing it away... I worked too hard and sadly spent too much time making the little progress that I did! Even though it's more or less a scarf at the moment. One day it shall be a baby blanket and by then since my kids will be grown I shall save it for another ten year until they have kids! lol :)

Wow! I love to crochet, but I absolutely can't abide piecework (making the squares etc. and then having to put them together). I'd much rather crochet a HUGE blanket (made a king sized spread for my SIL once) all at once.

Therefore, I greatly admire those who have the patience to crochet several different pieces and put them together. In fact, I still have a couple of piecework blankets in bags . . . the pieces are completed but I can't bring myself to put them together. LOL It's a shame too since one blanket is especially pretty. *sigh* One of these days I'll have to force myself to do it! =)

I admit it--piecing the squares together is my least favorite part. My first pieced afghan only got pieced together by watching multiple Harry Potter movies. This one I just knew how close I was to finishing and forced myself to do it.
