More of Eugene's work

I haven't posted one of Eugene's pieces in a while. Not that I haven't visited enjoying them any less or less frequently. I love his work. It's like each of his paintings tells a story. Here's one that makes really interesting use of colour and texture.

Reminds me of a Chagall work. What does it say to you?

A pensive piece to be sure. Eugene’s pieces usually pull me in to deeper thinking and this piece in particular with use of colour, texture, mood, points and curves and of course the train going east. There are many ‘trains’ of thought in directional symbolism. The cardinal direction of east could mean different things to different people, cultures, religions, philosophies with the idea of a return to something or a rebirth among the most common. My first instinct on this piece was the ending of an affair of the heart -- the man seemingly more a spectator than a participant.

What does it say to you?

I can see how you'd see it as an ending of an affair with the gray tones and then sudden swaths of bright red. And I agree that the man is on the outside looking inward. Maybe loss with the idea of new beginnings.

That's amazing. I love the use of the red especially with all the white and grey

I agree, James. Eugene's work can be rather whimsical at times too.
