This and that

The weather was really lovely earlier on but it clouded over just as I went out for a walk. This is a nuisance as I need more of our tomatoes to ripen before we have to pick them when the weather turns colder. It's not been a good year for tomatoes but we still seem to have a lot and I really don't want to make green tomato chutney again as we ( Read more... )

Yes, it was very nice to go out. One of the better side effects of the pandemic is that I really appreciate my days out more.

It’s good to be able to help out with research - well done J. Also a relief to know that it wasn’t COVID.

Drive-ins are just not a thing are they ….

J was picked at random for a survey on the prevalence of Covid in the community so he never had symptoms, fortunately. He had to do a survey on his contacts and it did make him look like a bit of a hermit as the day before the test arrived he hadn't been out at all. I don't know whether they will ask him to do anything else though the husband of a friend has been being tested for months. It is interesting to see a bit of the research that they are doing.

Hurrah for J helping in the research.

I think it is a shame that it looks as if the number of flights are rising again (Unintentional pun, but I rather like it), it would be so much better for the environment if the British economies relied less on tourism, and people began to think of flying anywhere as a once every 3 or 4 years thing, I think.

Yes, I agree, but it is easy for me to say as I hate flying and we try to find an alternative if possible. I find airports nightmarish places but it was very odd to go through Gatwick on the train and see so few planes on the runway.

J was rather chuffed to be able to do that. It will be interesting to see if they ask him to do anything else.

Me too, to be honest. But I still don't really understand all the people who feel it is impossible to live without at least three trips to places many hundred of miles away each year.

I don't understand it either. I do like to go abroad but not all the time. It does help that neither of us are fond of very hot weather so have no urge to rush to holiday in the sun.
