I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I agree that Merlin was being somewhat insensitive, but then his and Arthur's relationship has a basis of teasing and perhaps he didn't know what to do other than to carry on as usual. I mean, he might be the most powerful magician the world has ever known, but he's still a bloke, right? ;-)
My initial reaction was along the lines of - "Oh, good - finally an episode where Morgana isn't plotting Arthur's downfall/murder!"
But that scene in the forest where Arthur owned up to his part in the massacre and admits to his faults raised the game. Bradley James was superb (again!) and proved once more that he's not just a pretty face.
Thanks. It was a lot of fun and great to see my friend again, but it was tiring. We were trying to think of slang terms we used to use and it was amazing how many came back in conversation.
I refuse to speculate on the subject of the magic reveal because I want to watch the story the creators are telling in the way they wish to tell it without getting in a tizzy by overlaying it with my expectations.
This, this, this. So much this. In fact that pretty much goes for the whole show, but especially the reveal. I learned my lesson hard on this last week!
I loved this episode too. Clearly much of this season is about people acting out of character, but I really like the hints we get of everyone's personality through its perversion, if you see what I mean. Like how vulnerable and sweet Elyan is, how he'd rather use the silly salt trick than admit to anyone he's seeing spirits. Also, on a shallow note, my God, he's a beautiful man.
He is gorgeous isn't he and I was so pleased they used him more. I really must upload an icon of all the knights because I love them all in their different ways.

I suspect he thought the mocking would be epic *g*.
I learned my lesson hard on this last week!
Actually so did I, which is why I needed to remind myself! I have many things to be grateful to Buffy fandom for, but watching the story the creators wanted to tell me rather than the one I thought I wanted was definitely one of the most useful!

True :) He was probably just trying to get through to Arthur but maybe he should have stopped when it was obvious it wasn't working.

Yes. It was nice to have a different antagonist and a much more wronged one than Morgana.
