With my radio nerd hat on

Apr 02, 2011 11:12

Today is the day that BBC Radio 7 turns into BBC Radio 4 Extra for reasons that are probably clear to the BBC Trust, but not totally clear to me. There are some different programmes, but mostly it's the same mix of archive comedy, drama and readings. As I really like Radio 7 (apart from its very annoying jingles) I'm quite happy about that ( Read more... )

Hubby is a huge Pratchett fan, as well as refuses to listen to anything but Radio Four when we're in the UK, either living or visiting. So I'm going to pass all this along to him and completely make his day. :)

I can't figure out who I love most in that knight picture. Eoin is killing me, but then there's Bradley's smile, and Tom's arm, and... *sigh* SO much loveliness.

It's such a fun photograph :) And then there was the Colin one too!

Quite right too! Accept no substitutes. Radio 7 was always just Radio 4 in heavy disguise so I suppose they've just made that clearer by the name change. They did about four Pratchett adaptations so I expect they'll go straight through them. Hope he enjoys them :)

He's finally given up on finding an equivalent here in California. He's resorted to listening to his podcasts instead, lol.

The Colin one? Those b/w headshots do you mean? Because the one of him looking down just about makes me melt. I have to admit, when he started on Merlin, I didn't see the appeal. I just saw him as too young, I think. But now that he's matured a little bit, I can't help but stare in awe.

Yes. I should have said "ones" but I keep seeing the same one on my flist and it's burnt itself into my brain.

I join you in the staring in awe. I'm a Bradley girl really, but Colin is completely gorgeous and those photos are just stunning.

They're doing more and more of those now. I tend to listen to podcasts too as I like to pick my own time to listen and they make the ironing go with more of a swing :)

I was surprised about the rebranding too, but *shrugs*... who knows. Thanks for the tip off about the TW and DW broadcasts.

And Martin Sheen tomorrow -yay!

Yes, I'm looking forward to hearing him.

They may change it more as time goes by, but at the moment it still looks like the same old Radio 7, but with a new logo!

They've broadcast some of the Eight and Lucie series before so it's worth keeping an eye out for more stuff from Big Finish, particularly as Nick Briggs is one of their announcers.

Bradley's tweets just make me fall for him more every day. I'm a Colin girl but Bradley is just doing something for me.

I've always been a Bradley girl but his tweets have sent me into total meltdown. He outdid himself in adorability today :)

I find it really hard to listen to Radio plays - puts me right back in Radio Drama listening for edits...! I have to be in the right frame of mind.

I do like the look of the Desert Island disks as I tend to enjoy the bits between the music more than the music itself!

Thanks for the links!

I can still hear exactly when things are going wrong on the Today programme, but it's always such a relief to actually be able to listen to it without thinking "OMG, I must put that in the archive".

In Ye Olden Days it used to be archived without the music because of the copyright problems with commercial discs. Fortunately that was before my time because apparently it used to take hours to cut the music out. DID was one of my favourite things to catalogue because it was doable in real time, was always interesting and you could sing along to the sig tune at the end *g*.
