Spike vs Dracula 3

May 25, 2006 19:10

Had a very nice lunch at Tate Modern today with my friend M. We were so busy chatting and eating that we didn't have time to see whether the Tate Modern's recent reorganisation had made the layout of the art any more comprehensible. I suspect not ( Read more... )

Yeah, I saw some sample pages and thought they were very 'eh'.

BTW, are you actually IN London? Might be fun to try to meet up for lunch, though I'm only there for one long weekend.

Strictly speaking I'm right on the outside edge of London, but I can get in to the centre really easily. It would be great fun to meet up, but which weekend would you be in London? We're about to head off to darkest Lincolnshire again to begin clearing out my mother-in-law's house and we're off on holiday soon after that. Do let me know when you're around though as it would be lovely to meet you.

I'll be in London a week from today, for 4 days.

Barring disasters, and possible hospital appointment permitting, I should be able to meet for lunch next Friday if that would be OK with you?

I'm looking forward to getting my copy. A friend grabbed up the photo cover for me, because Mrrow! ;)

I saw a preview of the art and thought the same thing- I found myself longing for an artist who really got how to draw Spike. But the stories are still interesting.

Thanks for the review, Kathy. :D

My pleasure. The story is a good one so it's really a shame about the artwork. I think part of the problem may be that it's based on the way Spike appeared in Why We Fight, which I didn't think was his best look anyway. Add in an artist who's only going for a vague likeness and some of the time Spike is unrecognisable.

The photo cover is definitely the best bet, but I didn't have that option!

The Guardian had a generally favorable review of the Tate reorganization sometime in the past week. Even though I'm generally "meh" about modern art, it sounded interesting.

I will go and look at it properly some time. It's just that the food is a bigger attraction *g*.

I enjoyed it very much too. Wish they'd been a bit more sensitive about the cover images, though.

Oh, weren't they awful. I nearly groaned out loud when I saw them so the content was a very pleasant surprise.

The guy in my comic shop has me completely figured out. I was telling him to hold the next Spike comic for me and he just said "I'll keep anything with Spike in the title for you" *g*.

It's nice to have a friendly local comic shop. Comic Shop Boy at mine just bungs all the IDW Angel/Spike stuff in my folder (I've been going there long enough to have one) and lets me pick out which covers I want. I have to buy three copies of all the Spike ones because I'm getting them for 2 friends as well as myself.

That horrible salute cover is the one I gave back to him. The others weren't that good either but that one was by far the worst.

That was the one I ended up having to have. I wasn't pleased, but the comic shop guy is so friendly I couldn't really say anything. It does look as if next issues are better (or at least the subject matter is).
