That's an excellent price for beef. We split a side of beef with my parents a couple of years ago and we ended up paying closer to $4.

My parents bought half a 4H project cow when I was little. They filled a big chest freezer and an upright, refrigerator-shaped freezer with the meat, and it lasted us for a good long while. (I don't remember how long.) What size and make of chest freezer did you get? I've been eyeballing the Whirlpool 7cuft ones at Costco, but they run $200!

I also would love to know what size freezer you got. With all the cow my aunt gives me.. we don't have room in the freezer for much else than cow.

This weekend will find us camping in the wilds. With the exception of lunch (the call of hotdogs is too strong for my wife) I will be preparing local food.

brekkers: eggs and bacon
dinner: steaks, potatoes, and all green veg from csa (pac choi, green beans, cabbage and garlic) plus apples with brown sugar. Not local: oil, brown sugar, seasonings.

I am hoping to maybe pick up some more flour while I am out near York. Daisy Flour is local to me, but I might be closer to their mill out camping.

Sounds wonderful, not only as a meal, but as an experience. :)

Sometimes being single (and being poor) is a real pain in the butt when it comes to living better.
