So we're using cloth diapers for Lillian, and one of the options you have with cloth diapers is to use straight cotton (or bamboo, or hemp) diapers with a wool cover. If you treat the wool with lanolin, it's fairly waterproof -- plus, the lanolin neutralizes the ammonia in the pee, because long chain fatty acid (lanolin) + a base (ammonia) equals ( Read more... )

Yay! Those look awesome. We didn't use wool on Amy until fairly late in the game, because she had some lanolin sensitivity issues as a tiny infant and it took me a while to be willing to experiment with it, but we really liked wool covers for the short time we used them.

i have no trouble believing that wool can be cooler than plastic.

the lanolin solution is amusing. ^_^

and the pants look fine. when you lengthen them it needs to be in yet another colour and the same length. that would be stylin'.

I used to explain the wool-is-cooler thing like this: Suppose that in the summer you had no choice but to wear thick socks -- bare feet are not an option. Which do you think would feel better, a pair of cotton socks with a pair of wool socks over them, or wrapping your feet in several layers of paper towels and then covering the whole thing with Saran wrap?

The lightbulb-going-on looks were always entertaining. :)
