OK, so on Saturday, I turned 30. This is wonderful for many reasons. My late teens and early twenties blew really, really hard, and I honestly doubted at times that I would make it all the way to thirty. And yet here I am, and I'm very happy, and have a great life

At my wedding, my dress needed to be bustled after the ceremony (J. having insisted on a train), so my honor attendant, steve, cheerfully climbed up under my skirts (I was wearing a serious foundation garment, but as you say, still...) and started tying all the ribbons from my waist to the loops under my train. My mother came to find me and, from her perspective in the dressing room door, it looked for all the world like I was just standing there, doing nothing. She said "Come on, Elizabeth, everyone is waiting for you!" and from under my dress a man's voice says "Almost finished, Mrs. Hunter!" The look on her face was one I shall never forget.

Damn... now I'm dying to go to the Southern Kitchen. We used to go all the time when we lived within waddling distance of it, but we haven't been there since we moved out of the neighborhood. That needs to change.
