Bagpipes, Reading and Love

I've now officially topped the 50k word count mark on my novel.  At first, I wasn't very excited about that.  I had not gone back and read through everything from start to finish to see how it flowed and I had managed to convince myself that I was going to have to rewrite over half of it.  This weekend, I decided it would probably be in my best ( Read more... )

What I tend to do is break up writing and editing into chapters. Each chapter is edited thoroughly (and I am merciless to myself) on paper (you see more that way) and then edited a second time while making changes. At that point, I may send it to a beta-reader for their thoughts (I have a very good one, who isn't afraid to be hyper-critical). When she's done with the chapter and I have made the changes that I agree with (editing stuff as I see it this time, too) I consider it finished ( ... )

I did the chapter-by-chapter bit for a while, but eventually decided that I would just go back for edits when I lost my momentum. Of course, it helps when I actually ACKNOWLEDGE that I've lost my moment. Haha... Yeah. Anywho. The more I write on the story, the more I develope the little details of the world, and that often leads to going back and editing previous bits and pieces to include said details. To that end, I'm not really having anyone read this as I go (I originally was). I can't expect them to keep up with every little change and a lot of those "little changes" that I make turn into much larger things later on... Thusly confusing anyone who hadn't read the change. I do, however, write things out of order when particular scenes/moods strike me. I know what you mean about the discarded scenes... I have a whole folder of them sitting in the wings already. Haha.

Bah, I'm rambling on. Sorry if it's disjointed - God of War 2 cutscenes are very distracting. :P
