I still miss the idea of them, but the reality isn't satisfying. The reality is far too expensive ( Read more... )

You're not that far from Gilroy, are you? Of course, there is only so much inexpensive garlic one might want to eat. (My wife told me that they once had garlic ice cream, which sounds obscene and unnatural, like white chocolate.)

I've been to the GGF a couple of times, and that seems enough. The tri-tip is perfect, but the goods and services vendors are the same you see at any county fair or arts festival.

If it happens on a cool-temperature Friday I'd think about going again. Not on a 100 degree weekend day.

If you can put up with the other customers, I think the Berkeley Bowl is the best option for produce around here. Good selection, good quality, pretty reasonable prices.

I've been there twice, although in both cases it was the madhouse times before a holiday. I'll have to try again on a quiet non-weekend day (it's the bridge traffic on the return to SF that gets me, but I now have a fastrak.)

Two days ago I was at a brunch, and someone brought cherries from Monterey Market. Now those were about the best cherries I've ever tasted- hints of chocolate and rose- just perfect. I know nothing else wbout MM, but based on those cherries they must be good.

Her cherry clafouti was mighty tasty. And the farmer's market is in Waterloo, it just got taken over by the St. Jacobs megacorp. :-)
