Books, Books, Books

A tweet from Ms. Jessica Spotswood got me thinking about the number of books I've read this year-- a measly 43. (Jess is ahead of me, if you didn't bother reading the tweet-- and I totally think the 20 plays counts toward books. Yes, I realize they're totally different, but I still think it counts ( Read more... )

I can't remember -- have you read CHIME yet? It's my favorite book of 2011. Miranda's book is shipping now, and it's fantastic too. And HOW TO SAVE A LIFE. And I really enjoyed DEARLY, DEPARTED too...

Can I ask what you loved about Chime? I read it, and thought it was well-written, but I just didn't see what everyone who loves it sees in it, I guess. It didn't really catch my interest until page 200 or so.

I thought the voice was brilliant and unique, and I loved the character of Briony - how she couldn't quite manage to hate or tame herself despite her stepmother's best efforts. I loved the way the setting of the swampsea became another vivid character. And I loved the romance, the playfulness of it.

I haven't read more than the first couple chapters of CHIME. I started it when I was sick & quickly realized that was a bad idea. So I'll read it when I'm more coherent :)

Ack, I meant to look for Miranda's book yesterday when I was out! I'll order it :)

The last book that I read that's available and a must-read would have to be Lia Habel's Dearly, Departed. Because where else can you find a YA post-apocalyptic steampunk zombie adventure/romance with an awesome heroine?

Hm. I'm hearing Very Good Things about Dearly, Departed. I'm not usually a zombie fan, but this one has me intrigued :)

OMG I am loving Dearly, Departed too. Of course I also have been waiting for someone to pull off a zombie romance for a long time, which makes me weird, but...

I loved Shine. And I read Game of Thrones and loved it, but it's long, so not good for trying to reach a quota, especially because it has sequels that are even longer. :-)

Oh, I don't mind long so long as it holds my interest :) Might have to give it a try soon...

Ooo, I'm going to second Jess on CHIME. It was my favorite book of the year. Also, Girl of Fire & Thorn was excellent. Daughter of Smoke & Bone?

Yes, once my brain decides to function again, I will definitely give CHIME another chance. I read the first few pages when I was sick & unable to concentrate :-\

I have a preview of Daughter of Smoke & Bone on my Reader, so I'll check that out soon & see if I want to pick up the book. Also Girl of Fire & Thorn really intrigues me!

I hope I get some B&N cards for Christmas this year...
