I'm quitting NaNo.

Well, wait, let me rephrase: I'm stepping back from this year's NaNo. I might decide to try and play next year, but this year just isn't working out for me.

I know this kind of statement gets some people's ire up. "Why not NaNo? What else do you have to do ( Read more... )

Hooray for you for recognizing what's going to be best for YOU and for your writing. Sometimes it's not about setting goals, it's about setting LIMITS, or recognizing when you're approaching burn-out velocity.

*hugs*

Don't even worry about explaining yourself to anyone. Your process is not theirs and so on. :P

I've tried NaNo a couple of times and I'm always glad to sign up - because it reinforces, once again, how I work best. I like deadlines and the camaraderie, but I *cannot* push like that without taking a day or two off to just _think_ about my story. I work best in bursts - and my writing is best if I can take a little time to make sure I know where I'm going. Writing blindly just bogs me down.

So I'm not doing NaNo either. I'm drafting one story and revising another - making steady progress, though it isn't _quite_ up to NaNo speed. And I'm happy with that. :)

Anyway- sorry for the long comment. Just wanted to say I know what you mean, and I totally support you. *high five* Also, good luck. :)

Thanks! And yay for drafting/revising-- that's what I'm doing, too, and now that I've stopped trying to keep up with NaNo, I feel so much better about both.

Hehe, thanks! I still haven't gotten to the point where I'm really okay with taking (*gasp*) a day off, but I'm getting there.

Yesterday Steve had a super-busy day, work/work, playwright/work, two meetings, and a class to teach at night. I told him he could get through it and to just keep swimming. He was all: like a shark? And I started giggling b/c that was not the image I was going for. Apparently sharks never stop swimming, though.
