Totally agree with all your thoughts on Doctor Who. I hated the sudden involvement of Mels via montage. :/ And I was really disappointed with the last episode because Mark Gatiss wrote it and I love his Sherlock episodes, but you're right, it was cliché as heck. Hopefully the next episode will be better.
I do think the cliches in Night Terrors were executed pretty well. And now I think about it might be justified seeing as it's something a little kid came up with. But still, the dolls were really creepy in pictures and it's a pity they didn't turn out to be more interesting.
They weren't as scary as I thought they were going to be. I've always thought china dolls were way creepier because they look more lifelike, you know? And when they found that giant glass eye, I thought there were going to be china dolls who did that horrible, "Mama, mama," automatic voice recording thing. *shudder*
I'd seen pictures so I knew what they'd look like, and they were about as scary as I expected, to be honest. I didn't sleep well alst night. >_<
Though it just struck me now - were they actual toys? Like, did the little boy actually own a set of dolls that looked like that? Cause who in their right mind would give something like that to a child? D: I think china dolls would have worked better because then I could buy that they were real toys. xD
I find the River Song arc really annoying, because there's too many questions and not enough answers, and he keeps writing himself out of puzzles by making more puzzles, with a few retro-changes thrown in for good measure. It doesn't sit well with my brain for some reason.
But Night Terrors was much more like it. I loved Rory, I agree about Amy (nothing to be gained from her being turned and there wasn't really room for Rory or the Doctor to react properly to it) - I'm with you, it would have been much better not to get her as that would have kept the uncertainty about reversability going and thus the fear. (Maybe they wanted to make it less scary for kids?)
And also, I'm jealous of your Hollywood History course. It sounds very... varied. XD
I don't like the way it's written, but I can't help but love Alex Kingston, so I can put up with it. xD
There really wasn't time for a proper reaction to Amy getting turned - Rory's initial response was pretty heartwrenching, but then the Doctor was just like 'oh okay then' when for all he knows she's dead. Plus it was entirely her fault for coming up with such a daft plan.
It's not actually that varied - the required films are basically all ancient history Hollywood epics (Ben Hur, Cleopatra, The Ten Commandments, Gladiator). There's just a few oddities on the 'reccommended' list that I'll be interested to see how they work in.
I kind of agree about Let's Kill Hitler, I was honestly surprised when I found out the name of the episode because that whole topic is pretty sensitive and doesn't really seem like something that you should joke about...but I thought it was done ok. I was glad Hitler didn't have a big role also, but yeah, I get what you're saying too.
I thought the dolls were terrifying! And I was kind of relived that it was a non-arc episode, I was definitely read for one after the craziness of last week. But yeah, I wish there would be just one episode where someone didn't die or almost die, because it makes it less dramatic when something big actually does happen if one of them dies every week!
Those blondies sound delicious and that reminds me that I need to bake something!
Yeah, Let's Kill Hitler could have been handled a lot worse than it was. But I know a few people who were properly offended by it. :/
They really were terrifying! D: I had trouble sleeping last night because I am a big pansy. xD Apparently there's a pay-off planned for Rory's repeated deaths... possibly. It may also just be a running gag, but I swear I remember reading that Moffat had said otherwise.
There better be payoff, I mean at least they're making fun of it themselves on the show and they realize how ridiculous its gotten, and I hope he never actually dies for real, but it just makes anyone dying seem less serious because I'm just like, oh well, they'll come back just like Rory.
Tron Legacy makes sense if you watch the original Tron first. Otherwise I can see how it might be confusing. But the original is really cool too, so it's worth a looksee :)
I think my confusion mostly stemmed from the fact that I was watching it in a room full of noisy people and didn't catch any of the exposition. xD I should probably watch Tron sometime, though.
