Title: No Looking Back 6/6 Author: katherine_b Rating: PG Summary: Donna Noble meets a man who calls himself John Smith. Characters: The Doctor, Donna Noble
I think I had ideas that never quite went anywhere. I've looked back through some of my unfinished works and nothing quite matches it, so I can't remember at this late date.
No wonder Nine was so sad. I think he knew he was missing someone, and I think that influenced his actions a lot. But... TEN is still alive?! Oh my... *squeees*
I like the open nature of this. While there's still plenty of room for bad stuff to happen, there's also room for loads of good. That was tidier than I thought possible. Bravo!
Very, very beautiful! I am especially fond of stories that loop the timeline around - Donna's future, but Nine's past and Ten's in-between, that kind of thing - and you did this expertly. Throw in your mesmerizing writing and descriptive powers, and it was a magnificent story. Thank you!
Ah, the watch helped her by absorbing her Time Lord energy so she could now remember. And now she realizes exactly who John Smith is and what she has to do....
So past Doctor (Nine) inadvertently helped future Donna regain her memories by fob watching himself, but the price to be paid was him returning as the Time Lord he is and Donna leaving.
And it seems Ten (present?) was reminded by Eleven (present, future?) about Donna and he didn't forget her in the end.
And there's our Donna, asking the important questions like how did Eleven remember, and what does Ten appearing and remembering now do to the Doctor's timeline? How is she going to tell her family that she has safely remembered?
Ooh, one thing resolved, and look at all of the other questions now! Well done, very good playing with timelines!
Ah, I'll have to reread that bit with Wilf. It is possible the TARDIS was sending him a message telling him all will be well in the end with Donna, that she will remember safely. I could see her doing that.
I was going to say that maybe the TARDIS liked Wilf, too, because of his comment about him thinking it could have been a bit cleaner inside (ie, the Doctor should be taking better care of her), but I see it's before that happened. On the other hand, the TARDIS exists in all of time and space, so she might have known that about Wilf... or she just knew that Wilf was supportive of Donna and wanted to help him out.
Oh, one more thing: I've always felt that Donna was afraid for the Doctor, but not of him. She was always trying to protect him, even when she just barely knew him. She was afraid for him, for his soul... she seemed to understand the horrible choices he's had to make in his lives, and what it could do to him. She even has helped shoulder some of his burdens. To have that verbalized here just makes the case.
I have no doubt the TARDIS would do something like that t help clarify the situation. And hey, maybe the psychic paper said something like "Yes, this IS the Doctor, and hey, if he ever lets you inside that blue box, can you let him know it could do with a clean?" *snerk*
And yes, looking back I've had that point in a copy of fics now, most notably my Nightmares series. It's definitely how I view their relationship!
