When I saw the photo you had of the roo standing in your backyard, it startled me! I thought, my, what a grumpy old man! Then I put my glasses on and WAH!!!! A ROO!!!
Somewhere, I have a photo of an emu standing in my front yard. I'll have to dig it up and scan it for you. Having an emu standing in my front yard is unusual in that this is Texas, and emus are not native to Texas. Yet. Though thanks to all the emu ranchers who set their emus free when the market for their meat bottomed out, they might soon be!!
Emus are cool. I've rarely seen one wild. I've been close to one in a park but they are huge and stupid and have a sharp beak that is level with my head. I am a bit wary of them. Mind you Kangaroos can be dangerous too. Last spring mum and I were up on Bald Hill and in the evening the mob up there is huge. Two young males were fighting, kicking each other and scratching. And you can see the claws in the second pic there. But the kicking, the noise was massive. They rock back on their tale and use both feet. The one that lost started looking around for someone further down the chain to beat up and we moved back to the car while not making eye contact. This guy is taller than me when he stands up and he's not a huge one.
*g* I love the pic. He was eating at the time and that's why his tongue is out and I feel a little bad for making him look ridiculous on the internet but heee! I took about 100 pics as he was in the sun and I had my big lens on and a fence to lean it on. But yeah. I was laughing at the ones where his tongue was poking out a bit and then this one came up and I laughed a lot.
