Happy belated birthday to ozma_katiebell

ozma_katiebell, you asked for Dean/Seamus domestic and I'm afraid this isn't really that. I may get around to drawing that sometime soon but for now, this was the bunny that bit.

Title: Just Words On Paper
Characters: Seamus Finnegan
Rating: G
Media used: Photoshop and tablet
Concrit?: Yes.
Warnings: Angst?
Notes/comments: art and 171 words to go with it. Also there's more notes under the cut.

Dean was out there running for his life and he couldn't even find the right words for a letter. He knew it wouldn't do any good anyway. It wasn't like he could send it. It wasn't safe to. Then again, not even school was safe these days.
Oh, he could write about all the changes that had taken place at Hogwarts, the detentions and other punishments that had somehow become routine. He could even mention the stuff he and Neville had started getting up to with the help of the other DA members. What he couldn't find the words for though was what he really wanted to say.
How do you tell your best mate that you miss his smile? That you miss the warmth of his body next to yours as you do your homework? That you miss sharing amused glances when Neville blows something up in potions? How do you tell your best mate that you're worried he's already dead and that you think you're in love with him?

Sorry for my artist's attempt at writing. I just wanted to set the mood for the picture.
This took me a good many hours yesterday to paint and many more today to fix a few things but that was mainly due to computer problems. I had drawn the line art last week. I wasn't going to use this as the birthday pic because it didn't really fit the prompt but it really wanted to be drawn.
I used the Oil Pastel brush preset for this. It's a little different to my normal style and I must say I'm a little nervous without the outlines.
I seem to be scared of shadows. I draw something and think I've over done the shadows and then when I look back again I realise I've not done nearly enough. I've had to go back in and add quite a few more layers of shadow to this one.
Thanks to Ruth for helping point out the bits that need fixing.
For a long time Seamus looked like he was floating on the seat. I wasn't sure how to get him to connect with it. It wasn't meant to be squishy so I couldn't draw the seat giving under him. On Ruth's suggestion I ended up darkening the shadow under him and on the bottom of his jeans. It's not perfect but it's much better than it was.
Sandy hair is a bitch for me to draw. I didn't want him to look like Malfoy so I was trying desperately not to give him blond hair. (I know he's wearing green but you'll have to trust me that it's Irish green not Slytherin green) I think he's almost ended up looking like a Weasley though.
Oh and I'm not sure why the feather is glowing. *headdesk* I think it's because it's the only white thing in the picture.
Anyway, I hope you like.
