Apparantly in the play, Irwin is in a wheelchair so that's why they don't do it in the play - it sort of freaks Dakin out. I have no idea why Irwin isn't in a wheelchair in the film, but there you have it. Maybe for Dakin the challenge of having it off with a teacher was the real attraction, who knows.
