Prezzies

I realized the other day that watching my cousins open their presents last year may've been one of the greatest moments of my life to date. Which is sort of a pity, bc (a) my 13?yo cousin took away the wrong lesson, bc he asked for a plasma tv this year and (b) LBro suggested and we all agreed to buy them stocks this year, instead of toys, and oh man are they going to be disappointed.

Still, their Christmas wish lists must've been on my mind, bc after a gym session where the on-treadmill heart rate monitor claimed I'd gotten up to 190 bpm, I realized a hrm would be something I'd like that my mum, who likes buying me fitness-related things, would love to get me. And the next day, LBro called to say that he was at the store with my mum picking one out and did I want such-and-such feature for an extra $30. (No.) Which is great bc someone has interval workouts in her future.

The thing about LBro is, while most of the time he's obnoxious, every once in a while he does something so sweet, it's incredible. 2 weeks ago, he called and said he was buying me a Chanukah present. He wanted to get me something I wouldn't buy myself, so he was taking me to Betsy Johnson and buying me a dress. I wasn't allowed to pick it, he was going to ask the salesgirl to find something that would look nice on me, and that's what he was buying. And that's exactly what he did. It was a great present bc I'd never walk into Betsy Johnson myself, bc it's not really my style, but among the dresses we looked at, the one I liked best on the rack turned out to look fabulous on me. I tried it on and LBro said, "That's it, we're done."

Thing is, I'd also tried on a black silk dress that looked fabulous, once it was properly styled, and was for certain not anything I'd buy myself. I tried it on again, looked at it for a while, and went back to the dressing room to change into something else. I heard LBro on the phone and figured he was discussing the two dresses with my sister, who lives 3 blocks away from the store. I asked what her advice had been and he said he hadn't been on the phone with her. A bit later, he said, "Actually, that was Mom and she's buying you the other dress, so you don't have to choose." Hurrah!!! He made a lot of jokes about how the little cardigan for the silk dress costs more than his first suit and how he'll be eating Ramen for a while, which made me laugh. (He makes at least 5x what I do.) Along the way, I discovered that d'Orsay shoes, although gorgeous, do not get along with my feet. Sad.

I had an hour to kill before my facial, and somehow Patagonia and North Face are on the same street, so I went for a peek. Looking at expedition-class backpacks is so much more style, which I guess is why LBro thought a dress would be a good present :)
