I don't have words to describe how wonderful this weekend was. Is there even a way to describe what it's like to wake up, limbs entangled, with someone who returns your feelings? I wish there was, bc I'd like to remember those moments forever, what it's like to stroll arm in arm, to look over and watch his expression?
Since there isn't, let me tell you what we did. Fri morning, we stopped by Nippon Photoclinic, where the nice man futzed with my camera and explained I'd have to send it back to Canon to be fixed. He was able to retrieve the roll of film though, which should be interesting... I'm not even sure what trip it's from.
We went to ICP to see
the Henri Cartier-Bresson scrapbook, a redisplay of a very interesting art show. The story behind the show was cool, but I'm not enough of a photo-geek to appreciate it. On the other hand, I adored the photos by
Martin Munkacsi. I'd never heard of him before, but apparently he did all sorts of celeb and sports photos in the 20's and 30's. He was also a Hungarian Jew living in Germany, so there are some very interesting propaganda photos as well. I really liked that they had the pictures on the walls and some of the original publications under glass in the center. The poster shot is of Fred Astaire, en pointe. Way cool.
Sat night, we went to see Grindhouse. I didn't realize Lincoln Center Loews has different sized theaters, but we sat in the balcony of an enormous one. Again, I wish I had the film student terms to describe the movie, but I don't. My date warned me there were horror parts, but I somehow didn't really believe him and never read a review or synopsis, so I didn't know the first of the "double feature" was a zombie flick. There were huge chunks of the first "feature" that made me cover my eyes or grab my date's arm, but the horrors of the first half made the rawr! parts of the second feature that much more enjoyable. It wasn't fun, but it was a very neat effect and I liked how they put it all together.
