A little thought experiment

You live in a modern/Western/liberal society with all the usual rights of free speech, assembly, petition, etc. A law is passed that infringes upon the civil liberties of a minority group, but doesn't affect you. Do you protest or mind your own business?

Is your answer different if the law is banning something you find offensive (but doesn't infringe on your personal liberties either way)?
