I think Lileks reads my LJ: several days ago I wrote about lochai giving me grief for my use of the word "fine" and yesterday Lileks wrote about how HE replies to the question "How are you doing?". :) Also wanted to link to his column about what the Gnat calls him, both bc it's sweet and funny and bc it's very personally relevant: as part of my teenage ( Read more... )

Why do you dislike Stokes?

I can't understand why anyone thought that Glenn Close should play Nellie. Seriously.

Oddly enough, I was introduced to the musical by the Kiri Te Kanawa and Jose Carreras studio version - and I still feel that way.

So what do you think of the original version? We watched the movie when I was stage managing the show at MIT and THAT was freaky.

I've only ever seen him in Ragtime, Kiss Me Kate, and Man of La Mancha. I thought he did a great job in the first two, although I didn't think he acted enough in MoLM. He seems like a perfectly adequate choice for Emile.

Yes, Mo has been calling us Mom and Dad -- and she's only 3! It's very annoying. I feel absolutely geriatric when she talks like that. I'm "Mama"! Or "Mommy"!

I think my parents were Mommy and Daddy until I was somewhere in the 10-12 range, then they were Mom and Dad until I was about 15 or so, when I seperately started referring to them as "Hildie" (because she's a witch about grades) and "Gnub" (short for "Elohgnub", which is "bunghole" backwards).

I'm a terrible kid.

Why do you think they want me to find a NJG so badly?

Did you tell them you met a NJG, she's just too old for you? ;)

I don't do it with my dad, but when I'm most pissed off at my mom but have to accede anyway, I almost always use "Mother" the way you do... being hyper-polite and emphasizing the word, as in "Yes MOTHER, it would be my PLEASURE to help you with that."
