I re-read the rant a few more times and the only reference I found to zotting any part of their culture was in the agenda of Lilek's proposed summit, that if they "poke the hornet’s nest one more time", we'll go to Tehran and Riyadh and forcibly Westernize their culture. He goes a bit over the top there - it's a rant after all - but I think it's reasonable to argue that if we see another 9/11-sized attack on US interests, there will be major smackage involved. I think it feeds one of the points of the article that we've been remarkably restrained compared to what, say, a Putin would do. And may do. We've removed a sadistic dictator and encouraged democracy; we're reconstructing the country and helping put them on their feet. In all this, we have respected their religion and culture. At this point, the majority of deaths are insurgents or innocent victims targetted by terrorists. This is hardly the work of nasty, brutish imperialists.
