Halloween costume idea bleg

Oct 16, 2014 15:36

Last year I didn't realize how important Halloween is to my family of choice and got caught flat-footed, which meant I was scrambling the day before, which is why I ended up wearing an ao dai and long underwear. Every year, Jon's ex and child hand out candy for a few hours at a friend's house, which is part of a HUGE block of candy giving - this is ( Read more... )

Interesting puzzle - a famous mother that would appeal to your intellectual sensibilities but has at least some chance of being recognized by the average suburbanite. (I'm not sure if that's what they are, but the "sexy witch costumes" gave me that image.)

Though Olympias might be subtle, I don't imagine Leda would be any more recognizable, though I may be completely underestimating people here. (I don't have nearly the amount of knowledge in my head that you do, but I still know of Leda and Olympias, so I guess there's that.)

Having said that, I think your ideas are quite awesome and the bonus of Jon as Zeus just makes it even more compelling. (Hmm...not sure about the ex/child sensitivity on those.) I would request a picture of the two of you.

I'm also pretty excited about the plutocrat idea...

For all of that blather, I have no ideas of my own to add.

The ex really likes posting pictures on Facebook, so they'll be there. If I actually like the pictures, there might be one on our Christmas card this year.

Lady Jessica.

Cordelia Naismith, but there's no chance the suburbanites will get that and they might get Dune.

Grace O'Malley. (More badass than her son.) Alternatively/on the same theme, Mary Read/Anne Bonney, and plead your belly. [grin]

OH! I really, really, really like the idea of Lady Jessica and Duke Leto, I just need to get cracking on costuming. This is genius.

I am sorry that 1) I didn't think of Cordelia and 2) nobody would ever get it, esp. since Barrayaran Vor ladies wear is as maternity friendly as it gets.

I will definitely have to keep Irish pirate badasses in mind for future Halloweens (or maybe this one if I run out of costuming time). I need more pirate clothes anyhow ;)

Ha! I thought you would like that one. I'm glad I could help. Post photos if y'all do it!

Hm, well "famous mother" + "geeky" gives me Queen Amidala at first thought, except for the "not twins" thing again.
