A few good things

Good: used my apron for the first time.
Bad: eggs weren't tasty.
Good: tabasco sauce cures most ills.

I was still a little worried about my wrist before climbing last night, but apparently getting a "pump", which is what climbers call it when your forearms are hard flushed with blood from the exertion of climbing, helped them. Also felt like I ( Read more... )

Taken in several different contexts (food, clothing, etc): Hotness makes damn near everything better. :-)

"Vibram madness"? I've found them to be very uncomfortable for running on pavement (and the shortest route to a spectacular array of blisters when playing basketball); what seems to be the trouble?

Hip flexibility is the perennial bugaboo of folks whose day job means they sit most of the time. I've found that doing that stretch (or variations of it, including deep squats) every hour or so does wonders for hip flexor (and general pelvic) range of motion. Of course, this might garner you weird looks, depending on where you do them (my team is tucked off to the side of the office, and 4.5/5 of us do some kind of exercise).

She's never had any instruction on barefoot running, but she read Born to Run, so clearly she can go run 2mi with her brand new Vibrams. (She complained afterwards that her heels hurt, validating my opinion.) Oh, and did I mention she's training for a half-marathon, and that'll be her longest distance run/raced at that point?

Deep squats help with hip tightness?

I don't think I'll be doing those at the office. *looks down at form-fitting pinstripe pants in disgust*

The first time I ran in mine, I stayed on the grass, and have done so as much as possible on every subsequent run in them.

I've found that squats (of the "feet wider than shoulders, toes pointing 45 degrees out, ass to achilles tendon" variety) give a decent stretch to about half of the hip adductors (per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adductor_muscles_of_the_hip - all three adductors, and the gracis), as well as the hamstrings and glutes (secondarily). As a companion to stuff like the Samson stretch (which will extend the quads, hip flexor, etc), that covers most of the major ones.

Of course, sex is more fun. Just less worksafe.

Even in what sounds to be very nice pants.

I don't run in mine, but I do really like them.

They *will* hurt for a while until you adjust to them, at least in normal usage. My toes grip the ground a lot more, and they're not used to doing that in shoes. It's clear that a bunch of other adjustments are going on. I can only imagine that it'd be even more noticeable while running.

Sorry to hear it, about the eggs. But mmm Tabasco. I think it's an egg morning for me too.

Heh. Yeah, now booking for August, here. I am perturbed that the summer has just started, subjectively, and yet it feels already mostly over schedule-wise.

I look forward to your cupcakey demolition of her inferior offerings.
