i always tell people to bring wine. If it doesnt go with the food you still get to keep it :)

yeah, I'm kinda hoping that if I don't tell her anything specific, she'll bring wine. if she must bring something.

tea doesn't promote interesting story telling (at least, by my cow orkers, lushes that they are.)

HA! Well then. I've also been making Gin (Tanqueray) and juices with fresh squeezed organic oranges.

Looks good to me. And the answer to your south african workmate is "bring wine". Don't have them bring crackers. Plus, she's south african, so she really wants to bring pinotage.

thanks

No, she only drinks Chardonnay, so actually it'll be a relief to have her bring wine, since I don't keep that in the house.

It sounds like a fine menu. If you don't want to have your co-worker bring wine, you could have her bring the generic fruit, since it sounds like that is "fruit" on your menu, not something specific. Also, if you really can't deal with having her bring something, ask if she could plan the next get-together at wherever. (Unless that is someone elses' job already, of course.) Finally, you could tell her that you think you have all the food under control, but would be happy to have a partner in the final prep that evening to make it more fun. (Don't know how work schedules and your "hostess" personality feel about that. I'm not the best at having helpers in the kitchen, so I understand if that is actual less than helpful.)

Ooh, that's a great idea! all of it actually, but esp. having her bring the fruit, which I obviously don't care about. Thanks for the feedback!
