If Computer/Tech Stuff Bores You, Skip This

A bit of background: several years ago, our formerly local (right here in Excelsior Springs) Excel Computer sold the DSL portion of the business to KCNet, which was still sorta local. Then, a couple of years ago, KCNet sold out lock, stock and barrel to Turnkey Internet in New York. I liked the fact that even though they were no longer local, at ( Read more... )

We have had Uverse for over a year now. The first several months were bad but *knock on wood* we've had few issues since. Most annoying was the frequent beeping of the back up battery and two replacements before it stopped. We did not know the phone line would be dependent on a battery if electricity was lost or we'd have probably made a different choice. The bundle of TV, phone, internet seems to work okay and is better than the cable company for the area. We had dish network for a long time but wind and rain would sometimes interupt reception. The phone and internet landline was always dependable although costly. We get the bundle pack for the same money, maybe a little less, than having only internet and phone. When power was lost during the tornadoes in 2012, we had working phone and we could hook the laptop direct to the wall for internet to get news of what was going on in the area and not be totally dependent on radio. Cell phone towers were down or service was spotty but landlines were fine ( ... )

Thanks, ladyblue. So far (touching wood) no problems other than the modem going down. No idea why...

And now we have another issue. The service keeps going down intermittently and it doesn't appear to be the modem. I called tech support and got a live human, Maria - and she sounded Hispanic, not Indian! She ran some tests on our line and said the line was the problem. So we're waiting for the repair guy - probably Brad again - to show up and fix the problem.

For what it is worth, we had to have a new line ran too; when it rained there were issues w. crackling on the phone and spotty TV/internet connections. The tests showed interference coming from the box in the yard. A new line fixed it. The last problem about 6-8 mths ago was everything shut off and in the reboot, internet would not connect and our password did not work. The TV and phone worked okay, but we could not connect to internet even at the wall. Mike tried changing password online, etc, talked to tech ppl, and they sent a guy out. This tech guy was one of those superior types, would not answer my questions to tell me what was wrong or how he fixed it but he was able to reset the password and gave me the new password information.
Good luck! Now that the various glitches are worked out, Uverse is doing okay for us but to hbe honest we did have some 'buyers remorse' during some of the issues. I hope the problem will be solved soon for y'all.
