"What's next?"

I should be finishing (read: starting) addressing Christmas stroke New Year cards, but all I really want to do is sit on my couch watching The West Wing. I'm back in Valpo now, updated résumé on my hard drive (and backed up in at least three different file formats/locations), ready to attack the job market as soon as the holiday crush subsides. Yeahhh, I bet you're looking forward to having free time. At least with a job (most of them, anyway), you finish for the day and that's it. No need to think about it when you leave. Unlike academics!

What does charging 30c public safety fee actually do? Like... you pay 30c extra for a Xmas cracker, okay then. But then you take the cracker away to wherever it is you plan to use it and... then you use it. Whatever happens when you use it will happen whether you've paid 30c public safety fee or not. What.

As for my New Year... Ehhhhhhhh, nothin'. Just going to sit at home like a boring old fart, unless someone invites me out between now and then, which is very highly unlikely. What about you?

My mom bought me a box of eight last night and, after we checked out, she was staring at the receipt. I guess we should have been tipped off that something was up when the cashier asked for her driver's license. IDK. :|

You should go out. Are you planning on traveling for the holiday? I'd love to have you up to the Chicagoland region one of these days. :D I'm going to a party at a friend's place. It's the first time in, like, six years that I've actually had a party to attend and I'm really excited.

That's like when my cousins and I had a picnic in one of the city food court (it was raining outside, so rather than let the weather spoil our plans of having a picnic in the park, we had a picnic indoors, lol) - when I went to the supermarket to buy plastic cutlery, I had to show my ID because no one under the age of 18 is allowed to purchase plastic cutlery in Victoria. Though... I look a lot older than 18, so idk why my ID was asked to be presented. I guess I should be flattered?!

Nah, not travelling. Need to save up again to go travelling! But you bet that next time I'm in the U.S. of A. that I'll pop into Chicagoland and hassle you for a few days. :D

And COOL, re: partying. I haven't really been to a party in years myself, either. The crazy wtf Halloween party I went to in October doesn't count, lol. I hope you have loads of fun!

Well, watching TWW sounds like a fine, fine way to spend the day. I am, admittedly, biased. ;)

Good luck with the writing. And, of course, the job market. I'm reading this and thinking, "Man. I should really write everything I want to write PRONTO" because soon my life will be all academics all the time, except for breaks, but then even on breaks, I'll be doing school related things/looking for summer work. Etc. etc. I should take a lesson from this post. ;)

But, seriously, best of luck with the searches. The university idea sounds great. =)

Being biased about something amazing is all right, I think. :D

Congratulations again on your admission to William & Mary! I have absolutely no doubt that you're going to do exceptional things in the future -- just make time in between those torts and writs of certiorari to write, eh? :)

Hee. Truth.

Thanks. Definitely seems that it'll be W&M for sure. The only way it won't is if one of the other schools that accepted me really wows me on a visit. (I'm going to schedule visits to every place that accepted me, even if I think it's unlikely that I'll go there, just to be sure.) But W&M already has big advantages--cost and rank, specifically. It just seems weird that this is becoming...final.

Ha. Yeah. I'll try. That's what breaks are for, right?

It doesn't look like those NYE plans are going to pan out. But it will be a relaxing night. :)

GOOD LUCK WITH THE JOB HUNT!

One thing that kind of makes me resist going back to school (besides the still-paying-off-the-last-go-round) is that I really like having a job where my work time is my work time and my home time is my home time. No piles of assignments and homework (well, excusing the part where I just went out for ab hour to buy stuff for my program tomorrow, but whatever) taking up evenings and weekends. It's really nice to not have that stuff hanging over your head when you're trying to relax.

...Again, barring the fact that I need to make cupcakes for tomorrow's program. At least it's only a once-every so often thing. :D

Exactly! See, you and I are on the same page. I like my work time to be separate from my personal time. Schoolwork just blurred the lines between the two, so much so that I have a hard time remembering what I've done the last two years. XD

Yay for cupcakes! I didn't know you baked!

LOL well I can bake cupcakes out of a box with the best of them. :D

The other nice thing about work of course is that you have this free time and there's money going into your bank account instead of out of it. :D

Free time is the best thing ever, and you so deserve it after all of the hard work you've put in all these years. Good luck with the job hunt!

The Christmas crackers thing is immensely hilarious to me. I haven't the foggiest idea as to why precisely, but I laughed like a loon when I read that. I've always been kind of terrified of Christmas crackers - when I was younger the bang did scare me a little. I still frighten easily as an adult ... but not so much when paper hats are involved.

We're having a potluck pajama party at our apartment! I really don't like going "out" for New Year's because everyone has that idea. I also wanted an excuse to be in my pajamas and have other people bring food. My main motive is seeing friends, though ... honest.

And what are your plans, missy? :)

Thank you!

I'm really excited to use the Christmas crackers; I've never seen them for sale before this year -- it's kind of a big deal for me, actually. XD And I get you with the loud noises. I still make Todd open the cans of crescent rolls for me because I'm afraid of the pop.

That sounds awesome! Pajamas are amazing! I'm going to a paaaaarty, can you believe it? It's the first time in a long time since I've been out to a party on New Year's Eve! I'm super, super excited on account.

Oh my god, the first time I opened a crescent roll can I screamed. I was expecting deliciousness, not terror. Did you ever play that game Perfection? I used to hide behind the couch if the timer got too close to the end and I was nowhere near done putting the stupid yellow pieces into the slots.

That sounds like a lot of fun! A good NYE party is so hard to find, and I hope that this one doesn't disappoint! :)
