Why would a television tie-in book be less worthy based on that one aspect? Granted, there are many that aren't up to much, but other than that they should be up under the same consideration as any other book.

(I've seen Hitch-Hiker's Guide studied academically, after all, and it's a radio tie-in...)

it happens that i read Palin's book, quite a while ago. he's a very good writer, and the book is not a work of humor (although it does contain humorous passages). i can see how the book, connecting the pictures and the video with the written word, might be a useful way to introduce students to "English literature".

Well, maybe he at least had a look at the pictures, which seem to bother him more than the writing...
