Kate-
The Vote No on Prop 8 group has said that until the absentee ballots are counted it is honestly too close to call at this time so they are not giving up. The number of absentee ballots are way over the margin currently there.

I'm taking odds on how many of those ballots get lost. especially ones with great big ticks next to No.

My Dad, hearing that Prop 8 had been passed, said to me, "Well, at least that's settled!" At which point, I answered, "In something like this, nothing is ever settled!"

(BTW, I have no idea where my Dad stands on gay marriage. I just know that he and my Mom know that I'm an adament supporter of it.)

Right on - after all, this was California's second referendum on the issue!

I reckon eventually it'll come to the Supreme Court, who will find restricting marriage rights is unconstitutional anywhere in the nation... and then it'll be settled, all right.

It hasn't been covered as much by national/int'l media, but... sarichan November 5 2008, 23:20:43 UTC
Florida and Arizona passed bans on gay marriage, also.
Unfortunately, FL's proposition 2 wasn't on the ballot in my county, and my county went blue this election year. Makes you wonder if they picked and chose more right-wing areas of the state to vote the proposition through.

Wait, what? Not everybody gets to vote in a referendum?!

I have no idea why the propositions weren't on my county's ballot.

That is extremely weird. I'd make a few enquiries if I were you.
