Survival Under Atomic Attack

Went looking for 50s "Duck and Cover" type official films in the hope of bleak lulz, but found Survival Under Atomic Attack rather less funny than I had hoped. It's the idea that the attack could come at any instant, with little or no warning, and you have to live your life in anticipation of that possibility. She does not want to see "Threads". No human being with even a hint of depression should be let near that film. Or "Testament" or even "The Day After."

I remember being at home in the 80's, waking up to an incredible lightning flash in the middle of the night, and thinking "they've done it." It was an otherwise entirely quiet night, and I spent the next few seconds working out how long it would take the shockwave to hit. I've never felt so utterly at peace in my entire life.

I have the 'duck and cover' film with the turtle in it. It came as a trio of war docos to do with Hiroshima (It's a series of ww2 docos that now get sold at places like Red Dot)

Try looking for the movie Atomic Cafe, an 80's documentary which is mostly a collection of those Duck & Cover films.
