The "next Kyoto agreement" will be finalised by December 2009. Send a message to Kevin Rudd urging him to protect Australia's native forests. This will combat global warming in two ways: deforestation contributes a fifth of greenhouse emissions; and forests soak up CO2 from the atmosphere. Done.

It's good to know we're actually finding out which are the best trees/forests for recapturing carbon.

All the talk about fancy technological solutions to capturing carbon seem to overlook the fact that (a) the amount of carbon we need to capture to replace the effect of several large forests would, in its most compact form, take up roughly as much volume as several large forests; (b) the surface area it would need to present to the atmosphere in order to hook all the CO2 out of the air for processing is roughly that provided by... several large forests; and (c) the most efficient device for capturing it so far known to humankind is... several large forests! =:o\

The fact that people are still cutting down natural forests fucks me in the ear, frankly. For our next trick, let's all pull off our own heads and throw them away.
