Feeling a bit more positive this morning, after allowing myself a good wallow yesterday. I was only eighteen when I first fell ill with my tummy troubles. IANAD - i don't even play one on TV - but i've heard a couple of things involving vitamin D deficiency. it's not easy to get enough in your diet naturally if you're a vegetarian, because most of the natural sources seem to be fish oils. but more to the point, if you have trouble absorbing it from food or supplements because of digestive issues, you can get all the vitamin D your body needs just by spending ten minutes in the sun (without sunscreen), two or three times a week. you only need to expose your face, arms, and hands, and you don't have to - in fact, you shouldn't - expose yourself long enough to burn. the paler your skin, the faster it makes vitamin D out of sunshine, and as soon as you've got enough, it stays in an equilibrium (you can't overdose on it by getting more sun).

i should think that in Australia you could get enough sunshine just walking from the house to the road...
