Grumble grumble grumble grr grr grrr

Ok, so I forgot to take my Chinese herb zen pill today, and I don't know if it's that or lack of sleep or whatever but I am finding all kinds of things to grr at today.

First, I went ahead and upgraded to firefox 4.0 on the rec of gray_ghost and lost all of the extensions that I find actually useful on firefox (which, ( Read more... )

And frankly, if your'e in grad school, in a fucking phd program, and you can't actually figure out what you're having trouble with and just want to entirely dismiss works because that's easier than figuring out what your own problems with them are? I'm not sure you should be here.

This.

Why is she there?

you know, that's a damn good question. I think deep down it's because she's an anime geek. which would be fine if part of the geekery included theorization about the stuff. but it doesn't seem to yet.

Frankly, it makes me really angry and sad as well because how can she learn anything if she is not contributing? ANd if you don't get it, SAY you don't get it, and that can be part of the discussion. Also, incidentally, just 'cause you don't understand something doesn't mean you can't talk about it or around it, or about issues/theories/etcetera springing from it.

Also, re: hating something and therefore NOT wanting to talk about it? This is SUPERWEIRD to me because if I don't like something, I'm SERIOUSLY COMPELLED to RANT and RAVE and TALK about it! I really can't stand Cicero, in my field (he was an orator and politician around the time of the fall of the Roman Republic and a lot of his stuff survives - YAWNORAMA CICERO) and because I really can't abide him, I find there's loads of stuff to talk about ( ... )

Okay so I just read 5 pages of the introduction to that book (and then realised, most of the book is on there!!!) and I have at least four things to say.

Also if you ever come across any literature that draws parallels between Japanese and Classical mythology, super interested. I know literally nothing about Japanese mythology (is Godzilla Japanese? See - I am vastly ignorant in this area!) but the fact that Japanese literature corpus 'bad woman/female' has a lot in common with 'bad females' from Classical mythology (I get this from the first page! "descriptions of the archetypes of Western mythic and literary past, such as the Medusa [...] could probably have been borrowed verbatim as descriptions of the women I have encountered in Kyoka's narratives"!)

Interesting stuff!!! And then it goes on to talk about the phallus as lack... HOW is your classmate not interested in this?!
