Newhaven: Week Nine - The Charles Family

Nov 28, 2012 16:18

Previously for the Charles family: Augustus and his girlfriend Candence married not long before Newhaven’s founder, and first mayor, Guy Charles passed away. Augustus took the news especially hard knowing his father had wanted him to become Mayor after him and his sudden withdrawl became a concern for Candence who was expecting the couple’s first child. Candence delivered a baby boy they named after his grandfather which seemed to bring Augustus out of his stupor although in the end he was still defeated by his best friend Castor Brandon in the race to become Newhaven’s second Mayor.

Despite his defeat in the race to become Mayor, Augustus couldn’t have been happier. He enjoyed his job as a senator, and especially the four day working week, and didn’t find himself burdened with the additional responsibilities his father had been preparing him for in the hope his son would follow in his footsteps.

Candence on the other hand was less content. She loved her son dearly and didn’t begrudge being a stay at home mother, but as she watched her son grow before her eyes, she couldn’t help but wonder if she had made the right decision to forgo her own political career.

Augustus, to Candence’s frustration, seemed oblivious to her concerns about her role after Guy begun school.

And whilst they would always make up, Augustus wish he knew how he could make his wife happy. For the first time in a long time he truly felt at ease, he wished he could do the same for the woman he loved.

Inadvertently he succeeded. It appeared Candence’s role as a stay at home mother was going to extended.

She still felt it was all too soon though when family and friends came over to celebrate Guy’s transition to childhood.

Guy was a very outgoing child and brought friends home nearly every day from school.

He and his cousin Madeline also formed a close bond.

Candence’s pregnancy flew by and soon she delivered another bouncing baby boy they named Thomas.
