Newhaven: Year Two Overview
As the second year of Newhaven’s existence comes to a close, it is clear to see the mark left by the original settlers and how their descendants are continuing the town’s growth.
Newhaven now has a School, Police Station, Hospital and even an Arts Centre. The Darcy family has joined members of the extended Chang family in operating businesses, further stimulating commerce in the area.
Charles:
Despite being defeated by his best friend in the race to become the next Mayor of Newhaven, Augustus is actually very happy with his life. No longer feeling he has to try and please anyone, he enjoys his position as senator, but enjoys his three day weekends more.
Candence of course wants her husband to be happy, but can’t help but wonder if she was a bit rash in choosing to forgo her own political career to support his. For the meantime she feels content raising their son and studying in her free time, but she worries that may change once Guy starts school.
Brandon:
Castor Brandon is Newhaven’s new, and second ever, Mayor. In his tenure so far he has completed the building of the Nicholas Baruch Hospital began by his predecessor and the Newhaven Centre for the Arts.
He and his girlfriend Ziva Baruch are expecting their first child. She dreams of becoming a Celebrity Chef but for now, those plans are on hold.
As he promised, Castor did in fact build a Cultural Centre, allowing his twin Pollux to follow his dream of becoming a World Class Ballet Dancer.
Pollux’s wife Crystal is very family orientated and adores being a stay-at-home mother. She hopes to give Jade a sibling soon, and would like for her and her family to have a house of their own. But with Pollux only just starting his career, it seems that may be a long time coming.
Baruch:
Aaron struggled to tell his late father his dream was to become a Game Designer, but now that he has achieved it, he couldn’t be happier.
Opal loves her children and has enjoyed watching them grow. Now that all three are at school, and the Cultural Centre has opened, she wonders if she can chase her life’s dream of reaching the top of the entertainment career.
All three children are very kind and very active. Their closeness of age and similarity of personalities means Hazel and Ezra are closer to each other, than their older sister. Nichola doesn’t mind though as her sweet nature means she easily makes friends.
Chang:
Chris gave birth to twins Yin and Jin just hours after their father died from old age. As her late husband’s sister-in-law disliked her, she found she received no help from her children’s family, and struggled to raise them by herself with no income.
Now the twins are older she has begun work and hopes to pay off her debts. Her struggles have had no effect on her daughter, who lives for pleasure and popularity and wants to be a Game Designer. Her son Jin on the other hand has considered himself the man of the house since childhood and seeks a life of learning and family.
Chang-Collins:
Lin, as well as running the business Chang’s Chinese Cafe established by her parents, has achieved her life’s dream of becoming a Celebrity Chef. She doesn’t for one moment think it would have been possible without the support of her husband Vasyl by her side.
Lillian, who seeks a life of pleasure as did her mother, doesn’t have any specific career goals, and is happy being trained to take over the restaurant. She is currently dating Terry Sibly and the young couple is very much in love despite the four years that separate them.
Chang-Ngai:
Xiang, now an adult, is pursuing his goal of becoming a celebrity chef just like his cousin Lin. A very easy going guy, he’s pretty much just waiting for his girlfriend Coco Darcy to invite herself to move in.
Mei has been through a tough time, discovering she was pregnant not long after learning that her boyfriend Matthew had been found dead. Her daughter Jia has become the centre of her attention, prompting her to close the business her parents set up to focus on parenting. She is slowly embracing the developing romantic relationship with Maurice Sibly.
Darcy:
Kendal is now the reigning matriarch of the Darcy family. Coco, as well as honing her magical abilities is well on her way to achieving her dream of becoming a Game Designer.
On her birthday, her mother gave her the deed to the arcade/entertainment venue, The Dungeon, which they started together.
Ivory, unlike her sisters, didn’t inherit her father’s magical ability, nor did she find herself dreaming of a certain career. Her life’s wish is to be surrounded by family, and she intends to support her family by continuing the success of her mother’s business Maxwell & Spencer Haberdashery.
Ebony is the shyest and kindest of the Darcy sister’s and dreams of conquering the music career. She has fallen head over heels in love with an older, married, woman, and dreams of a future where they can be together without anyone being hurt.
Sibly:
Lucas, after achieving his dream of topping the Law Enforcement career, celebrated becoming an elder happily. He is proud of his protection of the citizens of Newhaven and chooses not to dwell on his decision to cover up the inadvertent death caused by his brother’s blood lust.
Lucas is thrilled his eldest son Terry has followed in his footsteps and that his youngest Clark says that he too wants to be a Police Hero when he grows up to.
He has noticed his wife seems a bit distant of late but hopes it will pass. He seems blind to the true nature of Gina’s relationship with Ebony Darcy, which crossed from friendship to romance quiet some time ago. Gina wants to be with her younger lover, but is concerned about how it will affect her son.
Maurice knows things could have gone very differently if his brother hadn’t been as understanding of his vampiric affliction. His guilt led him to his victim’s girlfriend, which became a friendship that has blossomed into romance. He tells himself it is his desire for her happiness that prevents him from admitting what really happened to her late partner.
Raymond:
Veronica and Raymond are happily married and have one son, James. They live with her son Terry from her previous marriage, and although their small house means they are sometimes on top of each other, they are a happy family.
Veronica was working in Science before a bad decision saw her fired; she felt she had no other option but to take up crime to support her family.
Terry on the other hand has followed in his father’s footsteps and is now a Detective. He is looking forward to his girlfriend Lillian Chang-Collins finishing school so the two can begin their lives together.
Simpson:
Newlyweds Peter and Rina Simpson have just moved into their own home and welcomed their first child, a daughter Iris.
Peter, despite being focused on pleasure, is a devoted father as well as Newhaven’s General Practitioner.
Rina on the other hand, who never wanted anything more than her own family, is finding herself overwhelmed by motherhood. She can’t decide whether she feels more relieved, or guilty, about returning to her position as Minister for Education.
Ebadi:
Bronwyn, Merlin and Madeline have now moved to a place of their own. They chose to build their basic, but comfortable, new home out of town with plenty of space for their active daughter to play and for them to roam on their furry nights.
