I have records older than I am that actually look like that (from my father's and uncle's wild days I guess). I must say I probably wouldn't have bought the album at first look, fearing it might be some easy listening Tchaikovsky ersatz. (Not sure if the word ersatz means anything to countries the Germans never invaded, but there it is XD.)
On closer inspection, though, there's a whole drama going on on that cover, with the white duck facing a blind perspective alone, while his so-called friends gossip behind his back. Truly, the world doesn't understand White Duck, and the feeling is mutual. WHY, WORLD, WHY 8D
I did have to look ersatz up, but now may use it daily just to confuse my fellow non-Germany-invaded countrymen ;)
And ha, I know, it just works on so many levels. Your interpretation is especially poignant when you consider the full quote is "In prosperity our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends." Perhaps white Duck is prosperous but but his so called friends will be so quick to leave...LIFE IS SO HARD FOR WHITE DUCK!
Yay, you took up the challenge! :) I agree, a title like "We Know Our Friends" is pointing to adolescent angst. And those ducklings certainly do invite interpretation. ;)
