Kate's Rules for Finding Friends

Oct 09, 2006 07:37

I'm an impertinent winged girl. Here I am less than a month old and already blogging what I think the meaning of (Second) Life is, how to do things, and flagging things as important. I this is because of rule #3: don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself, and rule #4: be obviously and outspokenly you. That's from my list of rules, which I didn't ( Read more... )

Your posts are really interesting. You should put them in the second_lifers community so we can all see them!

Thanks! I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to cross-post like that or not. I guess maybe I'll try and put a note at the bottom asking for comments if anyone would rather I kept them just on my blog.

Could not think about anything you left out. Only joined yesterday, but can second everything you said. So at least, it seems that I followed your guidelines more or less, especially looking at point 10. ....

Something You Left Out... kazvorpal October 30 2006, 00:36:55 UTC
I'm brand-new to Second Life, and was searching for an idea of how to make friends there. Unfortunately, your list didn't help me, because it left out the basic steps, like where to find people who are in the mood to talk to ignorant strangers, and how to get people TO talk to them ( ... )

Thank you, Kate... kazvorpal May 16 2007, 11:44:27 UTC
for providing the names of places to get help. Sometimes they are really hard to search for :)

Finding Friends in SL anonymous May 4 2009, 16:01:47 UTC
Thanks, Kate,

Good list, I get so involved that I tend to forget 7).

I just say "Hi" in local chat to anyone alone and take it from there.:)

Another good place is at Newbie stations where they are all floundering about and will talk to anyone for advice. LOL

What I would like is to find a way of conacting genuinely local people to combine RL & SL as a social thing.

Yours, Toni CyberSchrieber

Where do you normally go for meeting new people in SL?... I heard clubs are a good place to start, but I was looking for more ideas .... they really need personals on SL lol, it would make things so much easier.. I can make friends easily enough in RL but on SL it seems to be much harder.... I was hoping for some kind of place for people to meet people on SL in their RL state/country ... everything on SL seems much more complicated, maybe its just because I'm new

You're really right: it *is* much harder than it should be to meet people in Second Life. I had started a project called Meetaverse, a romance and friending system for Second Life, but I haven't had enough time or resources to keep it up properly along with my day job, although there's some hope that a friend of mine or two might be willing to get it launched ( ... )
