Curious and procrastinating.

Hi there. I was fiddling today, bookmarking friends-of as I do, and I was a touch surprised to see that friends-of was up to 92. (I hope to write well, but I don't expect that most of my natterings are of deep interest to the wide world.)

So, cribbing from various people-if you're reading this, feel free to tell me any or all of the following, ( Read more... )

Oh, what fun!

What do you read these entries for? Dog stories, book stuff, the law?

All of the above. And I've always liked the way you write anyway.

How did you find this journal?

RASFWRJ. Need one say more?

Tell me something about yourself. Anything.

I'm a tiny bit of a chocoholic. Just a little. Not much, really.

Thanks! And no, one needn't really say more, because I pretty well knew how you got here. =>

And I think you are not much of a chocoholic in the way that Mt. Everest is not much of a climb . . .

I read your entries because you're a sharp writer who's a pleasure to read. You could be writing about cooking or mountain-climbing for all I care. I do value your take on various books; you often seem to have interestingly nuanced opinions about books that the literati dismiss as fluffy, and that's certainly worth my attention.

I have no idea how I originally found your LJ, but As You Know, Bob, I already knew who you were from way back in the primordial ooze that is rasf*.

I raise ring fingers, like bulldogs, and type only with spinach. Also, I find most second-hand stores depressing, and I'm a surprisingly good bartender.

Thank you very much! It's interesting, I've found that booklogging has forced me to think a lot more about books--before, if something didn't quite work for me, I could shrug and put it aside, but if I have to write about it, I feel obligated to at least make an effort at understanding why. (I haven't abandoned book stuff either, I'm just seven books behind on the book log--and not looking to get to it much before the New Year, arrgh.)

. . . fresh or frozen?

Including used bookstores? I have a small theory that one sign that I'm actually an optimist at heart is that I frequent used bookstores.

I'm not sure that I'd be surprised that you're a good bartender, since the Tor parties are always well-stocked with a good selection of drinks (cider!), but it's a skill that I envy all the same as coordination and very short-term memory are not my strong points.

Did you google up those terms just for this post?

I recommend going back to that web site, then, as I don't practice contract law and have no intention of doing so. Or maybe bother Trent--he might be practicing it.

i like your book discussions. you seem to be an interesting person. and i'm a bit of a voyeur--i like knowing what people fairly unlike me are up to these days.

How did you find this journal?
if i remember correctly, another blog i read (unhelpfully, i can't remember which--perhaps bookslut?) linked to your husband's blog, and from there i found you. i think he had linked to some pics you'd posted about your new puppy.

Tell me something about yourself.
i really like the colour pink, and i've just started knitting. it's actually more fun than i had thought it would be.

Nice to see you here. I feel a little bad at the people saying they're here for book stuff, though, as it's 1) not all that frequent, 2) mostly intended for the actual book log (currently languishing for lack of time), and 3) delayed--such as the fantasy of manners stuff, which I haven't forgotten about, really.

I'm not surprised you came here via Uncertain Principles--it gets a lot of traffic, partly because it was noted on Blogger's front page a while back. (Not as much as my Nethack pages, though, which are also currently languishing etc.)

Pink--what kind of pink, or any kind? Knitting always looks really appealling when other people do it, but I'm not sure I have time for another hobby--or the dexterity, either.

i'll get over the lack of book-y goodness. the rest is pretty interesting as well.

i love bright pink specifically, but other shades will do in pinch. recently i found a pair of military style pants in pale pink and had to have them.

and knitting really doesn't take up more time. i do it in meetings, watching tv, or at go club when i'm not actually playing. it gives me something to do with my hands that isn't annoying fidgeting. not to mention it's considerably easier than i had thought. my cats don't even try to play with the yarn like i figured they would.

Ah, but when I'm watching TV, either I'm *watching* or my laptop is on my lap, and meetings and such aren't an issue (or I should be taking notes).

(There's a joke to be made somewhere about idle hands, but today's not the day for it.)

Thank you, and I'm afraid I didn't realize we knew each other from rasf*. Labor law isn't something I know much about; I know a teeny bit about civil service law, and a bit about employment discrimination, but it's not an area that I expect to have to squarely confront. Do you find it interesting?

That does sound fun, though certainly stressful. And boy, wasn't everything complicated by the stock market bust . . .
