Stupid Race Tricks, Survivor edition

I was going to say something about Survivor, but then I realized that I didn't want to waste my time and energy on such a transparent bid for attention from a declining TV show. However, if you'd like to marvel at the appallingness of it all, check out this article from the Washington Post-be sure to read the second page, which quotes Jeff Probst.

That is truly embarassing. I'm also annoyed that it was a successful bid for attention-- suddenly, people are reminded that the show still exists.

I wonder if they came up with the idea at Bombay's Hitler Cafe.

Yeah, that's about the same level, it seems to me.

Hey Kate, do you know of any searchable online databases of civil court verdicts? This post reminded me that I never heard the result of Terrell Bolton vs City of Dallas (not that I care all that much).

Not free ones, but Google is your friend: "terrell bolton suit" = http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:msiTQRff_Q8J:www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/EndUser%3FAction%3DUserDisplayFullDocument%26orgId%3D536%26topicId%3D14195%26docId%3Dl:312447030%26start%3D13+terrell+bolton+suit&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=4&client=opera

At this point I cheat and use attorney resources to find that the appeal appears to be pending; briefs have been filed in the 5th Circuit but no oral argument has been held yet.

I have only watched one season of Survivor, and that only because I knew one of the contestants. (The Token Black Guy for that season, as it turned out. Naturally, comments about "laziness" seemed to make it into the editing quite often. Bastards.)

Yowza!

It's like the train wreck of racial social experimenting.

I also like the confusion between culture and ethnicity. Oh, hell, it's all good, right?

Really, I think the "these people" is all you need to know.

I saw the news on ap_racism as well, but just...

Naturally, the interview with white guy Jeff Probst was conducted by white guy Harry Smith, because you wouldn't want a conversation about the cynical dividing of reality-series contestants by race in an effort to spike sagging ratings to be conducted by a member of, you know, an ethnic minority.

However, I have decided Lisa de Moraes is awesome, particularly when Probst claims that this is clearly what all those annoying PC people were asking for when they said they wanted more racial diversity on TV.

Lisa de Moraes is awesome indeed. The demise of blackboards!
