Readercon (minus detailed panel descriptions)

Jul 09, 2006 20:39

Behind the cut is my weekend at Readercon, minus detailed panel descriptions where noted. Those writeups are coming in separate posts, because they are very long and because I want to invite discussion on them.

Actors' Shakespeare Project, ... However, they look like a group to keep an eye on.
Oh, they definitely are. Our favorite local Shakespeare troupe, beating out the decades old Shakespeare & Co in Lenox.

xiphias and I have seen all their plays (with reviews of them here) and they're fantastic. They've already announced next season's schedule:
  1. Hamlet starring Ben Evett as the title character (October - November)
  2. A Winter's Tale (January - February)
  3. Titus Andronicus (March 29 - April 22)
[From bard_in_boston]
They also have a blog with rehearsal notes and such at actrshakespeare, if you're interested.

Thanks--I'll keep it in mind if we're out that way. I don't think I need to see _Winter's Tale_ again, but the _Hamlet_ might be good.

They'll be performing Hamlet in an honest-to-goodness theatre (the Strand).
However, to keep with their habit of using nontraditional spaces (or using spaces nontraditionally), the audience will be seated upon the stage while the cast has the whole rest of the auditorium to spread out in...

[I'm also looking forward to their Titus, which their press release compares to Tarantino and Stephen King.]

> "not just Kate's cabana boy."

I do NOT remember saying this. (It was in the bar; it was lateish; I was tired!) But, it does sound exactly like me. If Chad will forgive such a description, I will gladly own it.

He'll have to weigh in on the forgiving, but I must say I laughed quite a lot.

Sounds like a ton of fun! What part of Mist and Snow did D&M read?

I'm not sure; Chad might be able to say, as he went to their reading.

Doyle read the bit of the female POV where she is invited to a meeting between her father, Commodore Vanderbilt, and a sinister magician type, which I had heard before (last year at Readercon, or maybe Boskone). Macdonald read a bit about a naval lieutenant arriving at the Thule Experimental Shipyards, which I hadn't heard before.

Hello back. (I'm still not entirely good at this whole LJ-name thing, as you can tell.)

The whole thing was, "He's not just Kate's cabana boy! He's also a physicist!"

I made him talk physics with filomancer, who's been looking for people who know the subject.

Very possibly I misremembered his attribution.

He actually posted about the resulting questions: http://scienceblogs.com/principles/2006/07/why_do_they_always_ask_tough_q.php
