Go to the doctor. It sounds like you had some bugs that didn't get killed by the Zithromax. It might be a sinus infection or an ear infection. I know my mother, on occasion, has had to do two courses of antibiotics to make sure all the stupid bugs die.

Be sure to take acidophilus (yogurt, buttermilk, sour cream or capsules) to replace your good bacteria while on antibiotics. It helps keep your digestive system running smoothly and prevent yeast infections.

If you don't want to take decongestants, the doctor can give you a prescription for a nasal spray. And taking a couple of grams of Vitamin C can help ease the symptoms a bit.

I never noticed chocolate triggering coughing. Maybe my intake is below the threshold.

It's because it tends to coat my throat.

I have called my doctor, thank you.

The decongestant guinefan (or something close to that) which was prescription only, is now available as an OTC. It is what my doc put me on whenever I had a sinus infection, and it dries you up, and dries you up fast. If that doesn't kill off the infection (and depending on how advanced it is, that may very well do it, and do it fast), then obviously you'll need an antobiotic. My personal favorite for strep and sinus infections is Zithromax (azithromycin). It's a 5 day course instead of ten, and you only have to take it once a day. I loves me some Z-pak if I need an antibiotic.

Hmm, I will ask about that. Pseudoephidrine is not my favorite thing.

I had Zithromax already. => I'm inclined to like it just because erythromycin means I don't eat the entire time I take it, and Zithromax had basically no side effects. (I'm allergic to amoxycillin.)

I'm allergic to penicillin, so it's e-mycin, biaxin, amox., or azyth. for me (I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones I've been on for one infection or other in the last ten years), and if the doc asks if I've got a preference, I'll take azyth. every time. If anyone ever suggests augmentin to you, don't take it, as it's a combination of amox. and e-mycin (I would assume you already know this, since antibiotic allergies are easy ways to end up dead, and I know just how motivating that is to find out everything you can concerning the one that can kill you).

I'll take Sudafed or Tylenol with pseudoephedrine before going to bed, but yeah, I'm worthless during the day on pseudoephedrine too. It actually kinda blows that my favorite decon is now OTC. It's far cheaper to get it as a script and pay the co-pay. I could get a months supply for $5 then.

Yes, that sounds like Zithromax--and the relapse pattern suggests that yes it's bacterial, and no the antibiotic didn't get it all.

Most likely you'd get over it on your own--most of the time, for most things, we don't. But that's not a statistic I'd want to bet on.

Also, have chicken soup. Or hot and sour soup. Or both.

I don't feel that lousy, but I have called the doctor after finding that the stuff that might need me to be *here* is likely to wait until Monday. I have lots of other things to do but they can be done from home.

Zithromax is pretty hot stuff, but there are ALWAYS resistant bugs out there. Go now, before it becomes a horrific problem again.

The Mucinex tablets contain guaifenasin, which thins out mucous, wherever it is--throat, chest, sinuses. You can get them with or without the decongestant. Part of the problem may be that you have just enough gunk left in your sinuses for the few bacteria left standing to start over again, and getting rid of that might be a Really Good Plan.

Also, since we're now in the period where plants have wild crazy hot plant sex, getting on top of this problem NOW is a an Extremely Good Plan Indeed, because it won't get better on its own, and anything that cuts down on the zombie drugs is good.

Even, gross though the concept is, a neti pot.

Sounds stupid, but I hate to take Mucinex because of their awful commercials. All the same, I will investigate the matter.

I did take a Claritin yesterday in case the congestion was allergies, but that made no appreciable difference.

Thanks.

Those are pretty disgusting commercials. However, I can attest that the stuff works, and I'd rather a pill than an elixir, because it's a FOUL-tasting drug. I think there are store brands out there already, so you might want to check for those, and avoid subsidizing the ad agency.

You may be a bit early up there for allergies; we're just now moving from the maples to the elms down here in Tennessee. However, better to start that season with a clean slate. I'm just sayin'.

Good luck kicking this one.
