NO, I WILL HIDE IT FROM YOU FOREVER.

Ha, sign up just to find out! :D You can read more about it here. It's a secret fic exchange, basically. You sign up saying "this is want and this is what I'll write" (these are the eligible fandoms this year) and someone gets assigned to you and you get assigned to someone else (PROBABLY these will be different people). You're only guaranteed to match on one fandom, but if you have to match on the characters, too. So if someone offered Casson family, but only said they'd write Rose, they wouldn't get my request. (But if they said they'd write any character, they could match with me.)

See, THAT part I get. But who does the assigning? And how? Do people read the list and volunteer? It seems so complicated, and somehow it works out.

Ohhh. No, there's a program that does all the assigning. What might be adding to the confusion is there IS a pinch hit list and that's for the assignments that get defaulted on (someone saying they're not going to do it). And then people volunteer for that. And you can writer "treats," extra stories for people, which is a lot of the reason for letters like these. People might say something they're interested in writing and write it for fun. But you have a real assignment, too.

You can see more letters here! There's definitely stuff you'd be interested in seeing, like I've read a couple of Lord Peter Wimsey.
