Why I ship zutara and not kataang.

So, considering this is a zutara board, everyone reading this will probably ship zutara, but I wanted to write this anyway. I don't know anyone else who ships zutara, so I thought this would be a good place to say exactly why I love zutara so much, and why I don't think kataang would work out

Zutara would just be a better story than "oh the hero gets his dream girl the end." And honestly I just can't buy that first relationship = forever relationship, especially when they're both so young when it starts. People GROW UP.

The biggest thing for me, though, is that - looking at the themes of the show and especially its endgame, letting go of national and personal prejudices and the world at peace and the four nations working together - it makes SO MUCH SENSE and is way more consistent with everything we'd seen before for Zuko and Katara to be together and to represent that in a macrocosm-reflected-in-the-microcosm kind of way.

Exactly! I can't buy the whole marrying the first crush thing with kataang; people mature, and I really don't think it would have realistically worked out.

Another thing that bugs me is that with killing Ozai, Aang wanted to stick with his beliefs and his morals and not kill Ozai. This is fine, I liked it that way, but i really don't think the monks would be encouraging him to be kissing girls at age 12. The air nomads are based of Buddhists, and one of the teachings is to control your mind, which I don't think Aang is really following.

And let's not forget about how Aang was ready to kill Zuko in the Promise (comic) yet was so hesitate to end Ozai. And Zuko wasn't even far gone like his father, so the fact that they made that "promise" felt belittling to the characters and pretty much erased their progress in season three.

Aang was ready to kill Zuko? I haven't read the comics, I really need to. Maybe I'll beg someone for them for Christmas XD

ok i shipped kataang when i was like 8 and then when it was almost my 13th b-day i started getting into zutara it is a ship that is good for both involved and in the comics as said by bricat_fangirl they turn katara into a unrecognisable character, and the sweeties UGH.
