HELP!

Okay, so my friend really wants me to write a post-war one-shot where Zuko and Katara get together in an "unexpected" way. Also, it must be cute and fluffy but neither character is harbouring some secret love for the other before this "incident" occurs. I need an incident!

I'm thinking about a plot where Team Avatar is attacked and is forced to split up. Zuko and Katara find themselves together in the Fire Nation and have to go incognito, posing as a couple for their own safety.

Any canon suggestions of when they could have been split up and who they could have been attacked by?

Azula is always option a. She attacks often and depending on when you want them split it can be effective.

The other idea that just popped into my head is what if the battle with Combustion Man went differently? As in they end up running from the Western Air Temple and still camping (ditching Haru, Teo, and The Duke somewhere...or you keep them either one) and everything goes the same (Aang and Zuko still go to the dragons, still Boiling Rock, still split up and Southern Raider) but instead of everyone happy at the beach house Combustion Man comes back and Zuko and Katara end up getting away somehow while the others are on Appa.

Or you could play the fight with Combustion Man at the Western Air Temple differently...somehow.

What kind of unexpected? Like unexpected "we're trapped somewhere because the ship was attacked and now they are working on getting the beam off the door" or more like "Iroh makes them serve tea one day and they each decide agree to be the other's jealous boyfriend/girlfriend when people try to hit on them and then by the end of the day they kind of see why that's happening"?

Please do! Reading the above comments, it looks like Incognito/ zephyr_winds is going with a different idea for her story, so it's up for grabs. I simply don't have time to write it, with all the multi-chapter series I'm juggling (I just started yet another one!), and besides, you really have a gift for the sweet-and-fluffy stuff; I honestly think you'd do a better job with it than I would.

so I have an idea that is extremely silly, but would be good for a one shot. they get stuck together in the firenation equivalent of an elevator/cupboard/supply closest. Maybe Zuko's added a new security system that he just wants to show someone and it works a little too well, or maybe Katara's 'exploring' and gets stuck somewhere and gallant Zuko tires to rescue her with no luck. anyway our dynamic duo spend some time together and voila!

Hehe, this is so cute.

My problem is that I'm brand new to the show that when I start writing for a fandom, I'm a stickler for canon. It usually takes me a while to venture into this cute fluff category, which is why, I think, my friend wants me to write this: to step out of my comfort zone. :P
