I actually have an email from a student asking if she can cut n' paste theory into her formal lab report. The really amazing thing is that focus of this course is to learn the instrument and the reason it is used. So how does cutting n' pasting theory into a formal report show that the author knows the instrument.
giggle. I thought the teachers on my list would totally understand. I just wish I had more of a backbone to really come down on some of these students.
There is a CS Professor at GMU when I was an undergrad, who when a female student came up to him at the end of class explaining that she wasn't understanding the topic and asked him what she should do, he replied, "Marry Well".
I would have probably caused a major scene if I had seen that (guy or girl). I have already had one discussion with a student about switching her major. She mentioned it to me first and explained her reasoning before I discussed her options with her. I didn't have the heart to tell her to consider her options, so it was good that she came to a similar conclusion without my intervention.
The Comp Sci Prof who said that was Sood. I wasn't in the class, but my understanding was it got some gasps, and "Oofs". Dont know if any more fuss was made about it administratively, but the story was the buzz for quite a while. I got confirmation on it when I mentioned it to someone who said, "Yeah! That was me!".
Irony of irony: She actually did "marry well". Her fiance was positively loaded.
