my garden has a new resident

Mom's rock has become home to a cute lil snake at some point in the last week. From the looks of it, it survived an encounter with a bird at some point (healed scar on its back), so it's probably happy to have a nice safe place to hide. I'm going to start with a pic of Betty just so no one accidentally glances at a snake they'd rather not see...

A pet garden snake! :-) Do you know what type she is?

From her markings, I'd assume a common Garter Snake (thamnophis sirtalis), but she's longer than average since the first time I saw her, she was stretched out to her full length and easily 3 feet. She stretched the full width of the sidewalk she was basking on, with a few inches going into the grass (they get up to 50+ inches, so 36 isn't outrageous, but it's definitely above average).

(I say "she" but I won't know that for sure until July. If I see babies, then I'll know, lol.)
