so i made a Sanctuary fanvid to "The Call" by Regina Spektor and assumed that since there are dozens of vids with the song up on youtube, it would be all good. but, no joy. a week of work wasted because WMG insists on blocking it. i really, really hate these people with a passion...

I have lots of things to say about that. One - if I like the fanvid, and I love the song, or I love the fanvid, and like the song - there's a really good chance I'm going to BUY THE SONG. But I don't listen to the radio, I don't listen to Pandora, I do listen to fanvids, etc. HOW THE FUCK ELSE DO YOU PLAN TO MARKET YOURSELF TO ME for cash money dollars if you're going to delete your own song at every turn? You know who ought to be pissed at WMG? Not you and me - we lose nothing (except maybe a week of your time). No, Regina Spektor ought to be the one who's pissed, because now I'll likely never buy her song. And that makes the baby jesus weep.

ridiculous "marketing" strategy, isn't it? back before they got bitchy, I used to find a LOT of songs via fanvids that I'd never heard before and I routinely bought the better ones. Now I refuse to buy anything that those idjits at WMG hold a license too *dons an eyepatch instead*

Aw, YT sucks sometime. It blocked several of my vids too. But it would be a waste not to post the vid (and I must admit I would like to see it, there's not many Sanctuary vids out). You can try uploading it to 4shared and megaupload? Then post the links on LJ.

Yay, love the icon (and yeah, I'm a girl:-) I'm dl-ing the vid as we speak, though it might take me a while, Megaupload is being silly and giving me almost a 2hour dl time, grr. Nevermind, enough time to check out your youtube page:-)

Adding to the above comments, I've also used youtube and the fanvids to look for new cool bands/singers. It's a pity that the best of them are now banned. At least LJ is still there and there's plenty or recs going around.

glad you liked the Tesla vid, btw *hugs* i adore JY's portrayal of Tesla :D

LJ makes up for the new lack of good, recent songs on youtube, but it still annoys me no end that youtube's had to go so far thanks to idiot corporations who really should realize that they're hurting themselves more than the fans (who will find new ways to bootleg regardless of how many youtube vids they block)
